This definition isn't NPOV. It best fits the Roman Catholic concept of episcopus. It's not far from the Anglican sense, but it may be quite a way from the Methodist sense. (I'm not sure about the Lutheran sense.) It's a loooong way off from the sense understood in certain Baptistlike one-off congregations, in which any of numerous heads of their churches call themselves bishops. I believe I've read of one who made himself an archbishop. It utterly misses the Mormon sense. ¶ Anyone who wants to revise the definition might start by noting how Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary (probably the most widely used dictionary in the United States) defines bishop in its religious sense : "one having spiritual or ecclesiastical supervision: as a : an Anglican, Eastern Orthodox, or Roman Catholic clergyman ranking above a priest, having authority to ordain and confirm, and typically governing a diocese b : any of various Protestant clerical officials who superintend other clergy c : a Mormon high priest presiding over a ward or over all other bishops and over the Aaronic priesthood." (That's from the ninth edition; I'd guess later editions would eliminate the seeming sexism of "clergyman": many bishops these days are women, and the presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church in the United States is a woman).
