Disputatio:Episcopatus
Hmmm, is there a difference between an episcopate and a diocese? Because both words exist in Latin: Episcopatus and Dioecesis --Iustinus 20:17 mar 15, 2005 (UTC)
- Doesn't seem to be a difference in English: Both are defined as the office of a bishop. AHD uses "diocese" in the definition of "episcopate" though, and not vice versa; the former is a more basic word, of course, though Perseus's frequency stastics give no useful usage hints for episcopatus vs dioecesis -- both come up with four hits. —Myces Tiberinus 03:45 mar 16, 2005 (UTC)
- Yeah, well it's not a concept you'd expect to come up a lot on Perseus' corpus. Also I forgot the English word Bishopric, which is probably a better translation of episcopatus. --Iustinus 06:51 mar 16, 2005 (UTC)
