Vir

I understand that it is odd to call woman vir, but I think we run into the problem that was had with congressman and I don't see any word in my dictionary that doesn't use vir. Latin wasn't to gender neutral.Andy85719 04:51, 3 Augusti 2007 (UTC)

A vir is 'a male person', as contrasted with mulier 'a female person' (not to mention femina) and puer 'a boy'. The sex-neutral term is homo 'a human being (man or woman)'. In the context, civis 'citizen' might work, especially if you made a clause depend on it, a clause whose relative pronoun specifies the person's sex: civis qui, civis quae.
