Proelium ad Ctesiphontem die circiter 29 Maii 363 commissum est dum Romani expeditionem in Mesopotamia intendunt, duce Iuliano principe, resistente exercitu Sassanidarum et rege Sapore II. Quo victo Romani nihilominus mox e Mesopotamia recedere statuerunt. Iulianus ipse post viginti fere dies, in proelio prope Sumam devictus, vulnus mortale cepit.
