Anthropologia symbolica, vel latius anthropologia symbolica et interpretiva, est studium symbolorum culturalium et quomodo illa symbola ad quandam societatem melius intellegendam adhiberi possunt. Saepe videtur contra materialismum culturalem. Ait Clifford Geertz, "credens, cum Maximo Weber, hominem esse animal in telis significationis quas texuit ipse suspensum, culturam habeo esse illas telas, eiusque enodationem ergo esse non scientiam experimentalem legem petentem, sed scientiam interpretivam significationem petentem."^[1]^[2] Inter anthropologos symbolicos clarissimos sunt Clifford Geertz, David M.
