Neognathae sunt aves intra subclassem Neornithum classis Avium. Inter neognathas sunt paene omnes aves exstantes, quarum autem taxon sororium, Palaeognathae, ordines Tinaniformium et Palaeognatharum volatu carentium comprehendunt. Sunt paene 10 000 species neognatharum. Prima fossilia ex Cretaceo superiori agnoscuntur, sed horologia moleculares significant neognathas primo dimidio Cretacei Exientis ortas esse, abhinc annorum circa 90 milliones.[2]
