Descriptio

So-called "Snake column" or "Serpents column" that used to be in the centre of the Hippodrome in Constantinople. Originally it had three heads and came from Delphi, one of the heads is in the Istanbul museum today. Herodotus wrote: "Having brought all the stuff together they set apart a tithe for the god of Delphi, whereof was made and dedicated that tripod that rests upon the bronze three-headed serpent" (Herodotus, The Histories, book IX, 81)
