Object history
Deutsch: Das Wappen des Landkreises Wesermarsch ist im Jahre 1950 im Rahmen eines öffentlichen Wettbewerbes entworfen worden. Es wurde am 2. Februar 1953 vom niedersächsischen Innenminister genehmigt. Die beiden Balken im vorderen Teil des Wappens stammen aus dem oldenburgischen Landeswappen welches bereits vor 1475 überliefert ist. Die Kogge steht für die Bedeutung der Seefahrt in der Wesermündung. Der Rüstringer Friese, ebenso dargestellt im Wappen der Stadt Wilhelmshaven und der früheren Stadt Rüstringen, vertritt das Volkstum im Rüstringer-, Stad- und Butjadingerland.
English: The arms were granted on February 2, 1953. The dexter part shows the fesses of the Counts of Oldenburg. A large part of the district belonged to Oldenburg since 1234. The cog in the upper sinister was a typical medieval trading ship. It symbolises the longtime trade at the mouth of the Weser river. The warrior in the lower left quarter symbolises the old Frisian tribes that lived in the area.
