Thanks for making this Andrew. En has a few good quote templates, I have been meaning to get off my butt and copy some of them for a long time. You've spared me the extra procrastination!!!--Ioshus (disp) 17:12, 27 Februarii 2007 (UTC)Reply

Is there a way to make a citatio float to the right (or, for that matter, to the left) like an image? If not, would that require extensive rewriting of the template? If this weren't so important a template, I might just try to figure this out myself, but I'm thinking I'd better leave this one to the coding experts. --Iustinus (disputatio) 05:01, 29 Novembris 2014 (UTC)Reply

Well, I tried this, but it doesn't seem to work. --Iustinus (disputatio) 18:16, 2 Decembris 2014 (UTC)Reply
Hello, sorry for my late reply. What you tried actually works, see Special:Permalink/2810352. Still, I am not convinced that it is a good idea to allow quotations to float to the right or to the left: I fear that this possibility might seduce editors to add quotations (even quotations without a strong connection to the topic of the article in question) as mere "beautiful illustrations", without explaining the pertinence and the relevance of the quotation to the facts presented in the article. In my view, if an encyclopedic article contains a quotation, the article should firmly embed the quotation in the context of the article's topic. The position at which a quotation appears within an article should, in my view, by no means be arbitrary. Are there any specific use cases you have in mind for quotations floating to the right (or to the left)? Greetings, --UV (disputatio) 23:14, 2 Decembris 2014 (UTC)Reply
Hmm, perhaps it's not working for me not because of the "float" parameter, but because of the "width" parameter—the quote is long enough to take the whole column for a few lines. I'll have to figure out what I'm doing wrong with that.
As for the context, let me write you about that privately. --Iustinus (disputatio) 23::46, 2 Decembris 2014 (UTC)
I have now set a maximum width of 300px (= the default thumbnail width for new users) and moved the quote to the images column (which might offset the quote even farther from the corresponding text). Results: Special:Permalink/2810352, Special:Permalink/2810578. Better now? Do you just need {{Locus}} or do you need {{Citatio}} to be adapted as well? Looking forward to your current article project! Greetings, --UV (disputatio) 23:38, 3 Decembris 2014 (UTC)Reply
OK, now it's looking too narrow! Isn't {{locus}} supposed to have a quotewidth= parameter It mentiosn this in the documentation, and I saw it in the code, but it doesn't seem to work when I use it.
My current plan is just to use {{locus}} in my current article project. But what did you think of my argument (sent by private email) for its use there? If you think my reasoning is strong, then perhaps it would be good to have that in {{citatio}} as well. If you don't, then maybe not. What is your opinion?
Thanks for all the work you do on template coding for us, and I can't wait to show you the finished result.

Hmm, I guess the floating quotation looks reasonably good at that width if I set the text <small>. --Iustinus (disputatio) 23:22, 4 Decembris 2014 (UTC)Reply
The quotewidth= parameter just affects the size of the big quotation marks to the left and to the right of the quoted text. It does not attempt to set the width of the quote box.
Yes, <small>…</small> text could do the trick. This would ensure that the width of the floating locus box fits the width of the other (floating) elements (images) in the images column reasonably well.
Use of floating quotation boxes: I am not entirely convinced yet. (Under the circumstances you have described in your e-mail, I personally would probably put the quoted text not in a quotation box but in a <ref>…</ref> footnote instead.) However, I definitely do not want to interfere in any of your article projects, I always admire their quality. If anyone (in particular, you) wishes to use a floating {{citatio}} box in an article I can change {{citatio}} accordingly.

Finally got around to posting this! See my recent update of Terentius Tunberg. --Iustinus (disputatio) 21:08, 9 Maii 2015 (UTC)Reply
Wow! I just skimmed over your article now (did not have the time yet to read it thoroughly) - this is definitely an improvement! --UV (disputatio) 21:23, 9 Maii 2015 (UTC)Reply
Revertere ad "Citatio".
