Suggest moving this to Aquila--Ioshus Rocchio 02:34, 9 Martii 2006 (UTC)Reply

But it is called "L'Aquila" in Italian. :-) I don't think it would be appropriate to rename it. Unfortunately, I know of no latin language documents referring to it after 1939 (before that it was just called Aquila). I'll have to check on the bulletin of the Diochesis.

Yes it certainly is called l'aquila in italian. This is a latin encyclopedia, however, and the general trend is to latinize whenever possible. The definite article in all the romance languages derive from the latin demonstrative pronouns, cf el/il to ille, la to illa, los/las to illas/illas, gli/le illi/illae. So illa would be the appropriate corresponding form here. Further, apostrophes are not existent in most latin orthography. In this case though (it being an italian city, for a long time in the catholic realm), if the church has a proper name for it, we should consider letting their precedent stand, as leary as I am to let any of their precedents stand. I just dislike the look of L'Aquila as a latin nomen.--Ioshus Rocchio 02:56, 27 Aprilis 2006 (UTC)Reply
I think this should be moved to Aquila (Italia), because there will soon be a page for the Finnish city, Kotka (also latinised as "Aquila" - which I guess would be named as "Aquila (Finnia)"). Harrissimo.
Revertere ad "Aquila (Italia)".
