Palaeographia
Palaeographia (a Graecis παλαιός 'antiquus' + γράφειν 'scribere') est scientia manuscripti antiqui et historici, studium formarum et rationum scribendi, non rerum textualium quae insint. Amplectitur haec ars et disciplina academica rationes manuscriptorum historicorum enodatorum et lectorum, ascriptiones dierum,[2] atque interpretationem culturae scribendi, rationibus quibus scripta et libri effecti sunt historiaque scriptoriorum non exclusis.[3]
Etsi omnium saeculorum manuscripta ad illam pertinent, tamen medii aevi et saeculorum saeculum sexti decimi et septimi decimi chartas praecipue pertractat. Etiamsi igitur permulti fontes quibus rerum gestarum scriptores utuntur iam impressu editi sunt, nullam historiam de saeculis istis scribere potes nisi palaeographiae es peritus. Itaque studiorum universitates quae medii aevi historiam docent ad palaeographiam erudiunt.
