Disputatio:Hydromeli

Latest comment: abhinc 3 annos by Andrew Dalby

I just deleted the Geoponica passage I originally mentioned, on the grounds that it covers hydromēlum (which appears to mean something like "honeyed fresh fruit-juice") rather than hydromĕli ("honey fermented by dilution")... but I now see that Andrew has added an assertion that hydromelum is approximately equal to melomel, on the authority of Dioscorides. When I get a chance I need to look up that passage, and decide what to do about this page. --Iustinus (disputatio) 21:49, 8 Martii 2019 (UTC)Reply

That was my view, but if you think it better to describe those two separately, by all means do so.
I have begun a page medus to deal specifically with what is known of the Indoeuropean version of this drink, and also tej for the Ethiopian version. My idea was that this page Hydromeli will remain the longest and general page, with at least some information on all known kinds of mead. Both of those specialized pages correspond to pages in English and a few other languages. Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 10:03, 8 Decembris 2020 (UTC)Reply
